Butler Beat Down In One

Tonight at the Denver Athletic Club Jim "Smitty" Smith and Poor Boys Pro Boxing put on a good club level show for the DAC membership.  The show opened with an auction to benefit local charity Step 13.  The first item was a vintage car that raised a whopping $18,000 for the charity.  In the biggest upset in recent Colorado history, prospect Raphael Butler was knocked out in the first round by unheralded Darrell Provo from Houston, Texas.  Provo got his attention right off the bat landing a hard left hook that nearly took Butler off his feet.  Provo followed up with a big barrage of punches only to get caught with a straight right while landing a left hook.  Both men go down and Woody Kislowski begins the double count.  Butler gets the worst of it and Provo drops him with another left hook.  Butler shows tremendous heart in beating the count but after stumbling into the ropes Kislowski waves it off at 1:10 of the first.  In other action Jason Chacon picked up his first win with a 5 round decision over Danny Almanza.  Louis Monaco pounded Ross Brantley into quitting at 2:34 of the second round.  Terry Cruz and Elisha Oliva put on a female exhibition bout.  In the main event Carlos Zambrano outworked Tony Espinosa over 6 for a majority decision.
