Long time boxing supporter turned promoter CC Edwards and MoonLight Promotions will be holding their second card on June 11th at the DIA Holiday Inn located at 40th & Chambers. CC took harsh criticism from Ty Thompson and others on his first show and will look to make major strides this time out. The line-up for this card is perfect evidence. He has a solid line-up for his card with no real 'set-ups' which should make for some great fights.
In the main event local prospect Ayo Fadeyi will take on his toughest test to date in Elco 'The Animal' Garcia who is 14-2. Despite the longest layoff of his career, 14 months, Garcia should give Fadeyi all he can handle in their scheduled eight rounder. Look for a war in this one. The co-main will be a women's bout as Janae Archuleta will look to rebound from her loss to Holly Holm in taking on the very tough and hard hitting Angie Poe. Poe is coming off a win over Serina Hayden. The feature bout will have local up and comer Larry 'The Pitt Bull' Gonzales taking on Andrew Poulos (10-5-2) of Utah. Gonzales is fresh off his one round destruction of Joey Brixx in Albuquerque, New Mexico and will look to build momentum in his young career. Poulos is no push over as he is riding a 5 fight win streak, 3 by knock-out. Should be interesting. The undercard is loaded with evenly matched scraps as well. Che Velarde will look to get a win against Augustine Trujillo, Roosevelt Parker takes on Larry Dawson and Steve Valdez battles Tommy Aragon.
I encourage everyone to come out and support the fighters as well as CC Edwards and his newly formed company MoonLight Promotions. Tickets are dirt cheap with general admission being $20 and ringside a mere 10 spot more at $30. You will never get a ringside seat cheaper than this so get them early. I hope everyone in our boxing community shows their support and helps to make this show a real success.
Tickets are available by calling CC Edwards at 720-725-6216 or 720-938-0347. Or right here at RockyMountainBoxing.com

Hector 'Chin Checka' Saez will be back in action on Jim 'Smitty' Smith's Poor Boys Boxing show at the Mile High Casino in Blackhawk on June 20th. He called me over the weekend to let me know he will be taking on Frank Martinez. Saez is coming off a loss to Mike Arnautis who is now 9-0-1. He will look to get back on the winning track with his new trainer Jake Ramos.
In other action on the card there will be a heavyweight rematch of a true crowd pleaser when Corey Williams takes on Ray Mascarenas. In a women's bout Martha Deitchman will face Cathy Martinez and Colorado's trial horse Daniel Almanza should be able to pick up a win in his bout with Jason Chacon. Larry 'The Pitt Bull' Gonzales may also appear and round out the card.
Action starts at 2pm sharp on Sunday June 20th at the Mile High Casino in BlackHawk. Tickets are available here on RockyMountainBoxing or by calling 720-231-7724.

From INSIDE BOXING.Com
(
May 30, 2004) - Headlining the showdown will be two of Colorado’s top fist-slingers, Super Middleweights, Ayodeji Fadeji (8-4-1) against Elco Garcia (14-2-0).Fadeji last fought on April 16th defeating a tough Earl Allen in 6 rounds of competition.
Fighting his entire career at the light heavyweight division, Fadeji takes this fight in the super middleweight category. Trainer Aurelio Martinez says, “Ayo has been working hard and has added much to his boxing savvy.” “Look for Ayo to drop down to middleweight for his next fight.” Added Martinez.
Fadeji has had 2 fights under the guidance and training of Martinez, in his last outing Fadeji showed a lot of poise mixing defense with a strong offensive arsenal, a trademark of Martinez.
Garcia is nobody’s opponent, his excellent record is proof. In his last outing against Anthony Bartinelli he showed he is a Lion that cannot be tamed. Defeating Bartinelli by unanimous decision in 8 rounds.
The winner of this fight will certainly move up the ladder and into the spotlight of boxing.
The rest of the card promises to keep boxing fans on the edge of their seats.
In a Lightweight bout, Janae Archuleta will be looking to rebound from a loss to Holly Holm in New Mexico last month as she takes on Angie Poe who is fresh off a win over Sarina Hayden of Colorado Springs. Larry “The Pitt Bull” Gonzales will fight Andrew Poulos in a lightweight battle. Larry Dawson is matched up against Roosevelt Parker, as Che Velarde is against Augustine Trujillo in heavyweight contests. New Mexico’s Tommy Aragon fresh off his upset win over Russell Jones will make the trip back to Denver with every intention to inflict massive pain to the "past his prime” Steve Valdez. Valdez has not won a fight since September of 2001. Valdez at the age thirty-four will be the younger fighter in the ring and can’t see himself losing to a senior citizen. Aragon is riding forty.
When you look at the match-ups for this event, it’s hard to pick the winner in any of the bouts.
This is the type of boxing event geared toward the fight fan, not a single mismatch in the bunch. And to add a little extra cream to that cup of cappuccino, ticket prices are at a low $20 General and $30 Ringside.
Mark your calendar, better yet get your tickets in advance to this spectacular all-ages admitted boxing event. For tickets and information call: 720.938.0347 or 303.725.6216. Credit card purchases are welcomed.

We were able to catch up with Mia St. John after her fight Sunday night for a quick interview. We also have highlights from the fight. Special thanks to AirTight Boxing and Steve 'Matchmakin' Maestas for bringing her to Denver and for getting us exclusive access to her after the bout. And of course a very special thank you to 'The Knock-Out' Mia St. John!

The ever sexy Mia St. John showed again that she is much more than just a pretty smile. She has skills. She cruised to a third round stoppage over the very game Melissa Yanas. St. John established the jab early and she quickly wore Yanas down in the mile high altitude before unleashing a twenty punch barrage that caused Kurtis Thrasher to call a halt to the bout.. In the co main event Terri 'Lil' Loca took a huge step up fight in facing two time world champion 'Downtown' Leona Brown. Brown's has been in many of the best in the women's boxing and has fought in four world title fights. Cruz didn't lose a round on my card, although I had the 'feeling out' first even, and she basically dominated the fight with her jab before being caught by a wide-right hook that landed flush. The punch caused Cruz to turn to the ropes, possibly looking to a take a knee, when Brown clubbed her with another right hook. Only this one was to the back of the head followed by an uppercut before Thrasher could get in to stop the bout. Despite the loss Cruz proved she can more than hold her own with world class competition. No shame in that. One of my personal favorites, Mercedes 'Hard Luck' Mercury lost a tough bout with Terri 'The Road Warrior' Blair. Ed Walsh stopped it at the bell to end the fifth round. M&M looked sharp as usual, she just happened to matched tough with a power puncher who was experienced and well coached. It seemed to be the theme of the night for Steve 'Match Makin' Maestas as he matched all his women up with very tough opponents, showing he's not afraid to risk a loss to get a long term gain. These fight gave all of them the tests and experience they need to make it to the next level. They will learn from this and come back better fighters. Maestas also kept, Rob 'The Project' Frankel as I am now calling him or 'Red Hot' Rob as he affectionately known by the House of Pain crew, busy in a bout with Eloy Varos. Varos showed a much tougher chin than I had seen in the past and he hung in there tough. Frankel landed some vicious double right hands making Varos shell up a bit, but not putting him down or out. Frankel seemed to have a bit of an off night though as I expected him to pick a ko win over Varos. There were also two exhibition bouts. Martha Deitchtman got some good work in with the soon to debut Tana Gallegos. The other bout had Vangie Abeyta, who normally fights around 120 pounds in with Sarina Hayden who made her pro debut at 139. I'm not sure what went wrong here but someone has got to explain the meaning 'exhibition' to the fighters. I almost think the referee should issue warnings for known incidents of 'excessive power in an exhibition' and even stop the bout quickly if a boxer cannot control themselves in this department. Anyway; Hayden knocked Abeyta flat on her back with a very hard right hook in the third round after hammering away on her much smaller 'exhibition partner'. It was another great night of live local boxing complete with La Boheme ring card girls and the Chingaso Gear booth in a perfect venue for the event, Club Avalon. Airtight Boxing and Steve Maestas will be going again in August. We will have exclusive video highlights and an interview with Mia St. John later this week. The RMB round by round coverage will be up Tuesday.

Verno Phillips IBF title shot against Kassim Ouma has landed at the Missouri Southern College in Joplin, Missouri. The bout will be televised by Showtime. We will have more on this one soon.
Steve 'MatchMakin' Maestas and Airtight Boxing bring you an all female card to be headlined by former Playboy model Mia St. John. The show will be held at club Avalon on Sunday, May 23 with bouts starting at 7pm. St. John appeared on the cover and in an 11 page layout in the men's magazine in November of '99. She will take on Melissa Yanas. In the co-main Terri 'Lil' Loca' Cruz will be fighting Leona Brown after unsuccessful attempts were made to secure Jackie Chavez for the bout. One of my personal favorites Mercedes Mercury will be in with Jessica Mohs in a six rounder. Martha Deichtman will face Serina Hayden. Monica Lovato is matched up with Katie Mehan while Tonya Gallegos gets TBA for now. Tickets are going quick but are available by calling Steve Maestas at 720-298-1954.
Delgado's stable of Young Guns will headline their next show scheduled for July 3rd at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock. It will feature Mike Alvarado, Manuel Perez, Hector Saez, Kenny Lemos and Felix Rios. There is also a championship scheduled for the main event. The prices are starting low at $20 and are available now at www.ticketswest.com or by calling 303-432-8994. You can also stop by Delgado's to get tickets at 7605 W. 44th in Wheatridge.
Davarryl 'Touch of Sleep' Willimson's first defense of his titles has landed on the season opening card of ESPN's Tuesday Night Fights on June 8th in Hollywood, Florida. As announced earlier he will be taking on rugged veteran 'Merciless' Ray Mercer.
Donald '2-Slick-2-Quick' Camarena continues in the Mayweather camp. Donald told me they spar 5 minute rounds with only 15 seconds rest. He also said that Mayweather doesn't spar, he makes 'em quit. Camarena is the only partner not to quit in the ring and two others even packed it up and headed home.
Brad Jensen lost by TKO2 to Norberto Bravo last night at a card in Arizona. Keeping 'Smitty' busy Art Medina fights Scott DePompe (25-4) in New Jersey tonight!

May 28th Professional boxing card at Santa Ana Star Casino is still the best
boxing show in May even with all the card changes there has been this week.
No matter what some fans are saying there will be a very good show for the
fans. Little Ray Sanchez will be fighting for a WBC title vs. James Johnson
of Texas Brian Garcia will still be fighting for a WBC Title vs. Ivan
Hernandez. They are the Main Events for this show and the rest of the card
is still great with Vicente “El Picosito” Garcia vs. Al Salinas of
Winklejohns Boxing and Karate. Salinas is always well prepared and in shape
to do battle. Salinas has been in contact boxing for a long time and has
done well in the pros so this will be the first real test for Garcia. In
other battles there will be Jeremiah Torres of Belen, N.M. vs. Lee Montoya
of Albuquerque who is now trained by Johnny Tapia. I have to give credit to
Torres as he was the only fighter from many that were called upon to accept
the fight even when he had the chance to cancel out after the mass confusion
he still accepted the fight. Fans are in for a good show as there are boxers
on this card that want to fight in front of New Mexico boxing fans. Included
are Jeremy De Los Santos of Roswell vs. Sergio Vela of El Paso a one time
prospect of Top Rank. Then there is Espanola’s Tony Valdez in a come back
after a couple of years of relaxation. On this card there will be plenty of
action and the fans are the ones to gain from all the action. This card will
be a sellout as New Mexico has not had this quality of fighters from New
Mexico on the same card before. So get your tickets early.

Manny Perez on the other hand scored a split-decision victory over Antonio Gonzales. Perez dropped him with a right hand in the second but Gonzales fought back to make it close. Perez moves to 2-0 (1ko) and Gonzales falls to 1-1.

Here are the 'quick results'. Camarena stopped a very game and awkward Juan Aranday midway through the sixth round. Tommy 'The Cobra' Aragon needed a knock-down to win a split decision over Russel 'Stoner' Jones, in a bout I didn't think was really close. I scored it a shut-out for Aragon. David 'Senor Body Damage' Hernandez continued his winning ways in stopping Martin Quiroz with, a body shot of course. He knocked him through the ropes with it! Keith Jardine made it a clean sweep for New Mexico in beating Che Velarde for a four round decision. Also in an exhibition bout Frankie 'The Educator' Sanchez and Larry 'The Pitt Bull' Gonzales put on a good show for the boxing faithful. We will have full results tomorrow night.

Here is a letter from a Mike Alvarado fan. The only reason I want to bring it to the front page is to point out one of the many problems holding back the boxing scene here in Colorado. Enjoy.
You forgot to add the man that everybody fears into your 140 lb dream tourney. Mike Alvarado. He called both Moras to spar against him but they didn’t show for some reason. He embarrassed Larry Gonzales while sparring recently. Might I note Mike wore no headgear while Larry did. Roy Delgado and Hector Sais are part of the young guns so they already know and fear Mike's power. As for Art Cruz, Mike knocked Arts tooth threw his lip while sparring. Now Donald Camarena or Bam Bam hasn't had the chance to feel the wrath of Alvarado. Mike isn't calling anyone out but He is The top 140 pounder in the state. Add him to the tourney. C Aguayo.
Mr. Aguayo,
The dream tourney piece was done before Mike made his pro debut, last year
some time. It is fairly old, maybe it's time for a new one. It was a very
time consuming project and didn't garner much attention from readers.
Were you there to see Mike embarrass Larry? Or is that someone else running their mouth? I would hope it's not Mike he seems like a very good guy with a family and daughter who helps keep him focused on the real goals. He just doesn't seem the type to me, but I have been wrong about people in the past. Roy and Hector fight lower weight classes than Mike, Roy 140 and Hector fights at 135 as does Larry. I believe Mike will be fighting 147's soon.
I am good friends with Larry Gonzales and I was there for the one and only time the two of them sparred. I can name everyone who was in the gym that day. So tell me who told you Mike didn't wear headgear. Tell me who said he embarrassed Larry, I have the damn tape to prove otherwise. It was at Delgado's on Monday the 13th. Mike not wearing headgear? That would be idiotic, especially against a boxer of Larry's caliber. It was the Monday before Mike's scheduled bout on the NBC card that I believe you reminded me about. With a great and knowledgeable coach like Mr. V-How, I don't think headgear is an option that close to a fight. Mike is a great fighter who I hope and believe will be Colorado's version of Detroit's Tommy Hearns,(who is my favorite boxer of all time) as I have said in the past. I think he will be 'one of the ones' to put Colorado boxing on the map. It takes his kind of power and explosiveness. Tommy Hearns rivitalized boxing in Detroit, but not single handily. It took that boxing community's support. Mike did not and will never, ever embarrass Larry. Larry spars regularly with Verno Phillips who is #2 in the world at 154lbs. 'V' is fighting Kassim Ouma June 5th on Showtime for the IBF strap. Not to mention JC Candelo, Hector Saez and AT, and anyone else who asks for work from him. Now you might say what does being a sparring partner have to do with it? He learns. He is like a sponge in the gym, listening to everything his coaches tell him, he soaks it all in, wanting to improve and get better. He is also forced to get better by being in with some of the best. Also what was Larry working on that day? Was it defense? Offense? Footwork? The jab? He doesn't just get into the ring and go full bore like a fight, there is always a plan in place before the sparring session, ask his trainer Jake Ramos. Did you know that Larry had just fought on Saturday the 10th in New Mexico? Two days before the sparring session in question. Sunday was spent traveling and he then turned around and came in on Monday, with no time off, to give Mike the work he needed because that is the kind of guy Larry is. If more people were like Larry and Team Gonzales, we would be a lot closer to the flourishing fight scene everyone craves. Remember, the two fought once in the amateurs and Larry won a well deserved decision, in a somewhat boring fight, period. I have that on tape as well.
This type of bullshit talk and hater-ism is only one of many problems facing boxing in Colorado. This type of stuff, if allowed to grow, could keep the two from ever sparring again, even though they need each other. Larry and Mike should spar together every chance they get. They will undoubtedly face similar opponents in style and size. They will make one another better fighters and since they both represent Colorado, it's all good. Make no mistake, the Colorado boxing scene is judged from the outside as a whole, not by parts. This is still the 'opponent state' in the views of many. I wish people would just mind their own and not try to 'stir the pot' all the time, the boxing scene doesn't need it and the fighters certainly don't need it. By nature, boxing inherently has plenty of problems on its own. People need to start speaking highly of one another when it is deserved and maybe just not say anything when it's not. Just don't say it. We have some real prospects coming out in Colorado to provide our scene with plenty of offense. The fans need to do their part and help out in 'tightening up our defense'.
What our 'boxing community' really needs is unity.

Newly crowned C.A.M. Champion Donald Camarena will take on Juan Aranday in a 6 round contest on Wednesday, May 5th. Camarena defeated former USBA Champion “Little Guns” Lupe Gutierrez on April 24, 2004 to win the C.A.M. Title.
The boxing event will be held at The Radisson Graystone Castle, 83 East 120th Avenue. (I-25 & 120th). Doors open at 6:00 pm.
Camarena wants to show his appreciation to the local fans by performing in front of hometown fans.
“Donald is stepping up to the plate, we want to let local boxing fans know that there is a fighter to fill the shoes of former world Champion Stevie Johnston. I encourage everyone to go and see this kid perform, he is the real deal!” Said trainer and manager Aurelio Martinez.
Line-up for this event:
Russel Jones, Accra, Ghana Vs. Tommy Aragon, New Mexico
David Hernandez, Denver Vs. Martin Quiroz, Mexico
